Voice 2008 - News

THERE were dramas, tears and show-stopping performances at the Voice finale.

The nail-biting event had judges at the end of their tether over who to crown the Voice 2008 — and with only one point separating the winner and runner-up, there were gasps as Bellshill lass Stacey Cook took the top honour.

The 24-year-old sailed through the first phase of the competition with the upbeat Celine Dion track I’m Alive.

Ten became five as Stacey joined Motherwell lad Ross Blackwood, 10-year-old songstress Carmen Farrow-Henderson, singer Debbie Conroy and heart-throb Duncan Keith to battle it out in the second stage of the competition.

Stacey took on the Jennifer Rush classic Power of Love and her spine-tingling version allowed Bellshill to take the Voice honour for the second year in a row.

Hot on her heels, however, was Ross (31), who kicked off with the Ronan Keating chart-topper If Tomorrow Never Comes before delivering a pitch-perfect rendition of the Robbie Williams anthem Angels.

Ross, who spent 10 years abroad working with the holiday operators Thomas Cook, took second place despite the fact that the final was the first time he had performed in front of a home crowd.

The honour of third place went to 10-year-old Carmen Farrow-Henderson from Knightswood.

The Bearsden Primary pupil showed maturity beyond her years as she took on Bette Midler’s The Rose and the showtune Popular, from the West End musical Wicked.
